Our week in Thailand

Well, we just got back yesterday from our vacation in Thailand. We went to Phuket and Bangkok and had such a great time. They have also more "American" things there than China and almost everyone spoke English pretty well. The resorts were beautiful and both had kids clubs that had neat kids activities every hour. Lauren and Marshall spent alot of time there playing and made some neat things like towel animals and necklaces. They showed movies all day and the kids could just go and play if they wanted. It was a nice break from the sun at times. It was a 4 hour flight from Beijing to Bangkok and then another hour to Phuket. We got there in the evening and they greet you with a flower lei and a drink while you check in. Marshall took this opportunity to toss rocks into the serenity pond, probably not what it is intended for, but fun for a 4 year old. Lauren did some dancing. The rooms were really nice and they had some good restaurants there. The kids ate pretzel bread almost everyday, and they had a huge American buffet breakfast. Lauren and I walked down the beach the first day and she got some braids in her hair, we had to talk her out of doing her whole head. She kept them in today to wear to school to show everyone.
The pool had a waterslide and the coolest thing was everyday, an elephant would walk by. If you gave the elephant some money, he would take it in his trunk and give it to the owner. You could feed him bananas and the kids even got to ride on him. They were so excited, it was all they could talk about.
Todd did some scuba diving, and we hung out at the pool everyday. We took a taxi into a little beach town but there isn't much in Phuket except resorts. We did go to a show one night called FantaSea, which was like a Las Vegas type show with dancing elephants, magicians, fire shows and it was cool. The kids rode on an elephant and held a baby tiger. Again, they thought they were cool.
We were really glad we stopped in Bangkok for a couple of nights. We went to a HUGE market which is only open on Sat. and they sold everything you could think of from food, to clothes, to animals. We knew it would be dirty and busy so we make the kids wear old, dirty clothes. We were getting out of the elevator if front of alot of people, just as Marshall asked very loudly. "Why do we have to wear dirty clothes AGAIN?" We got some funny looks.
The market was CRAZY. It was better than the ones in China and things were much cheaper and were a better quality. We bought a 3ft Budda statue that weighed alot- and Todd carried it around on a backpack for the whole day. We took all kinds of transportation that day, the subway, a boat, and a tuk tuk which is what we were in in the picture. I wouldn't recommend it, you breath in exhaust fumes the whole time, but it was fun. Lauren waved to everyone during the ride and most people waved and smiled back.
We flew back yesterday and they were happy to get home to see the kitties yesterday.
Take care everyone
